Information
on the Scottish Highlands
Situated
in the North of Scotland, the Scottish Highlands stretches
from Spean Bridge in the South to Thurso.

Culturally
the area is quite different from the Scottish Lowlands.
Most of the Highlands fall into the region known as
the Gàidhealtachd, pronounced roughly Gailtahk,
which was, within the last hundred years, the Gaelic
speaking area of Scotland. The language is now widely
Scottish, and evolves regularly with population shifts.
The
Highland landscape varies from Green and subtle in the
South, with the North generally being more mountanous
and wild. Loch Ness isnt the only spectacular Loch in
the Scottish Highlands, there are literally hundreds
around. Lochs around the Spey Valley include Loch Morlich,
Loch Insh, Loch Garten, Loch Alvie and Loch Gynack to
name only a few.
